MBABANE – He has a very busy schedule.
After spending one week at home upon his return from Russia, where he had accompanied national boxer Thabiso Dlamini and signing an agreement on the boxer’s E1 million worth one-year scholarship with the Russian Boxing Association (RBA), the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele will today jet off to Sierra Leone. Jele, who also acts as EOCGA’s secretary general, will be attending the 39th Seminar First Secretaries General (SG) of African National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
The two-day seminar will be staged in the period of November 12-13, 2022. Jele is expected to return home on Monday. He is scheduled to present EOCGA’s plans and implementations which include an update on the newly-constructed EOCGA head offices located at Lobamba at the OlympAfrica Centre. In a prior update, Jele said the structure was projected to be complete by February and had invited ANOC members to attend the official opening of the over E1 million project which was also funded by ANOC.
Important
“This is an important session as it brings together all 55 National Olympic Committees’ (NOC) secretary generals or CEOs from the continent to share ideas and experiences on the work that they are doing in their countries. It is also an opportunity to brainstorm on challenges encountered in the execution of their mandates. Eswatini has been identified to do a presentation on the 12th on the EOCGA strategic plan implementation. I have already prepared and submitted the power point presentation to ANOCA and they are now translating it into French. I will do the presentation on Saturday as per the programme,” Jele said.
The CEO further said that Eswatini was being used as a model for other NOCs following the construction of the offices which received most of the financing from ANOC. “I will also share updates on the construction of the EOCGA head offices at Lobamba, as we have received most of the financial support from ANOCA. Other NOCs are eagerly awaiting completion of our structure so that they can learn and understand the processes we undertook,” he said.
The costs of the trip are catered for by ANOC and each NOC is authorised to bring along a maximum of two delegates, but would only cover expenses for one delegate per NOC. The costs covered include air ticket, accommodation and meal expenses. The members were also urged to purchase the most direct and shortest in Economy Class.
