MBABANE – The season continues for local swimmers as they will on Saturday return to the pool for the second Age Group Gala.

The event will be held at Enjabulweni School, starting at 9am. The Eswatini Swimming Association (ESA) held their first gala a fortnight ago and eight clubs were represented. The first gala was not timed and as articulated by ESA President Herman Jele, the focus was on refreshing the swimmers and preparing for the next event, which would be timed and highly competitive. Jele added that the second gala was proudly hosted by Griffin Swimming Club.

Preparations

He further said that the event would come in handy, as it would be preparations for the upcoming 2022 Region 5 Games to be held in Malawi, Lilongwe, starting from December 2-11, 2022. He, however, withheld the names of the two swimmers pending a press conference by the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA), where the Region 5 squads would be officially announced.

“We have two swimmers who will attend the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games in Malawi. Unfortunately, I cannot divulge their names at this point until our sports council in partnership with EOCGA announce the team,” Jele said.

EOCGA Chief Executive officer (CEO) Maxwell Jele said the press conference would be held next week upon his return from Sierra Leone, where he would be attending the 39th Seminar for Secretary Generals of the African National Olympics Committees, starting tomorrow. He is expected to land in the kingdom on Monday.
