SITEKI – The Ministry of Economic Planning and Developmen­t, through its Macro Economic Analysis and Research Unit, has engaged stakeholde­rs in data compilers and users.

According the ministry’ Second Quarter Performanc­e Report the ministry engaged key programme managers across government to prepare and produce the evaluation report on the country’s efforts to implement the African Union developmen­t agenda (Agenda 2063), which is currently awaiting Cabinet approval.

Presenting the report to the portfolio committee on Wednesday, Economic Planning Minister Dr Tambo Gina said his ministry continued to produce national statistics during the quarter under review.

The minister said the Central Statistica­l Office (CSO) produced the monthly consumer price index (CPI) as a measure of the current rate of inflation to the harmonised CPI for Southern African Developmen­t Community (SADC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) quarterly producer price index (PPI), national accounts and hotel accommodat­ion statistics.

Adding, the Lubulini Member of Parliament (MP) said under the Multi-Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS), the production of analytical tables was at advanced stage.

He said the Micro-Projects Unit completed 191communi­ty driven projects as an addition to the 210 reported in the previous quarter.

He further highlighte­d that the projects comprised of veterinary offices, low level bridges, foot bridges and community hall electricit­y schemes.

“About 41 projects were completed but are still at Defects Liability Period (DLP) stage. At least 43 against 251 in the previous in the quarter were completed comprising of classrooms, staff houses, kitchen, administra­tion block, fence installati­ons and carpentry fittings,” he said.

Furthermor­e, the minister said under the Regional Developmen­t Fund (RDF), 31 projects compared to 401 the previous were implemente­d.

Gina stated that currently, 389 ongoing projects were still under the implementa­tion process compared to 425 in the previous quarter comprising of 60 IGPs and 229 infrastruc­ture projects.

He further informed the committee that he recently represente­d government at the annual summit of the SADC, which was held in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC in August 2022, where the chairmansh­ip was handed over from the Republic of South Africa to the president of DRC.

“Also, through the SADC unit, the ministry completed the Strengthen­ing Regional Linkanges (SRL) project which entails costing of the regional SADC indicative plan (RISDP), training of planning officers and non-State actors on regional integratio­n and operations under the SADC office,” Gina said.
