... says police challenges man made

-

M– Former senator Walter Bennnett said he was concerned when police officers are joining the protests on the streets.

He said it was difficult for him to come to terms with them demanding better wages.

He said he fully understands the challenges the officers were facing but pleaded for a better way because they remain the key people emaSwati must run to when in danger.

He said he blamed the issue of allowing consultants to include senior officials when reviewing and designing new pay structures.

Bennett said every employee must be represented for his or her role as an employee, to determine their pay than for that to be controlled by senior government officials. He said the unions must be advocating for that to be attained to avoid the senior government officials planning and getting all the lion’s share of the loot.

“Issue of review for salaries must not be driven by those in authority but it must be solely on the inputs of workers not on those senior government officials,” said Bennett.

He said the issue of salary review and the terms and conditions of service should involve workers, not the principal secretary (PS) or anyone. he further implored unions to address the issue on their vuselas.

Unions

He implored unions to stop the tenders if they will not involve workers who know the hardships they are facing and understand better than their PS.

Bennett further alleged that police were on the streets toyi-toying because those in the leadership of the police decided to share amongst themselves what the government had given to the police service.

He said the consultants should not involve those people in the department that is under review.

“Issue of review for salaries must not be given by those in authority but it must be solely on the inputs of workers not on those only those in authority,” said Bennett.
