M– Its good news for football enthusiasts.

This comes after Eswatini Television station announced that they would have fan parks for local football supporters, who are interested in watching the 2022 World Cup hosted by Qatar in eight days.

This year’s World Cup will be held this month, as compared to the usual time of June/July due to Qatar’s intense summer heat during the known dates of the global tournament. The change has made for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, the first tournament not to be played in June/July and it will be played in a reduced timeframe of around 29 days.

The opening match is billed for November 20, a contest between the host nation Qatar and Ecuador at Al Bayt Stadium, with the finals scheduled for Qatar National Day on December 18 at the same venue.

The national television broadcaster, alongside its corporate partners KFC Eswatini and Eswatini Mobile have come to the aid of football supporters as they have lined up fan parks for the fans to watch the games live. This was revealed by Eswatini Television’s Communications Officer Nompumelelo Dlamini, during yesterday’s Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) Sports Show. “As we all know that we are left with nine days before the start of the World Cup in Qatar and we will broadcast the games live, but what will make football lovers happy, is that for the very first time in the history of local football we will have what is known as fan parks,

where supporters will watch the games live,” Dlamini said.

She said this was a drive to take football to supporters wherever they were through this initiative, which will start at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground, in conjunction with the Mbabane Municipal Council with other partners. Dlamini said the supporters would gain free entry into the parks, but encouraged them to have money to buy food that would be on offer on the day. The games will be broadcast live on Eswatini Television.
