Chieftaincy issue was a thorn – MP

-

EKUTSIMULENI – Mkhiweni Member of Parliament (MP) Ndlelayekuphila Masuku said the finalisation of the chieftaincy issue in the area would change a lot of things.

Masuku said it was very difficult to even navigate donations in the area as the two factions were constantly fighting. He said they were made to choose in so many instances yet as an MP, he was supposed to work for everyone in the area.

He mentioned that the dispute was one of the things that hampered progress in community projects even though the residents were working hard to improve their lives.

“Sometimes when you help in one area the other one would be aggrieved so we found ourselves living like a man in a polygamous relationship. We are very grateful to the elders of the area, to Emalangeni and all those involved in taking the decision. We want to believe that as the new chief has been introduced to the community, everything will now fall in place and we will be able to progress. I am excited that he spoke about the improvement of the community and said he was looking at ways of ensuring that the youth in the area receive help to develop,” he said.

Masuku said he was even told not to attend the event as an MP because he would be viewed as siding with one faction against the other. He said he continued to attend the event because his office as an MP dictated that he belonged to everyone in the area even one that was an enemy of the other.

The MP stated that he had worked well with both factions and was hoping that the relationship would continue to grow.
