MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers gaffer Changara Terisayi feels that they were supposed to win their first match of the season on Saturday.

He made these observations after seeing his charges forcing a 2-all draw against city rivals Manzini Sea Birds in an entertaining MTN Premier League game played at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground on Sunday.

The maroon and white ensemble collected their first point of the season in six games, after losing the first five matches in the 2022/23 MTN Premier League. They had to dig deep for the point as Phathizwe Mabuza scored three minutes before full-time. This was Mabuza’s second goal of the campaign as he scored Wanderers’ first goal against Green Mamba at KaLanga Technical Centre. They lost the match 1-3.

“The boys did well, although we lost concentration sometimes during the game as you saw the goals Sea Birds scored were due to a lapse in concentration. In this game we were supposed to collect three points, but poor finishing let us down,” Terisayi said. He said they were supposed to bury the game in the first half as they created a lot of scoring opportunities.

“We need to work on our defence now, as we managed to score today (Saturday). Two goals can win you a game; I need to concentrate on the defence,” he said.

Meanwhile, his counterpart at Sea Birds, Christian Thwala observed that they started the first half very slow and they got punished.

“In the second half we came back stronger and equalised as well as taking the lead, but we that mistake at the back and the levelled matters,” Thwala said. He said that Wanderers were not a tough side, but the challenge was the mistakes they committed in the back.
