MANZINI – The trial of the William Pitcher students, who were arrested for allegedly inciting others to engage in a protest, was yesterday adjourned.

This was due to one of the accused, Samukeliso Magagula (27) of Nkhaba, being absent due to medical reasons.

The accused is part of the eight students; Phindokuhl­e Dlamini of Mgungundlo­vu, Lindelani Zwane of Lubulini, Bheki Mabuza of Malangeni, Mciniseli Tshawuka of Jabulani, Thembela Simelane of Kadeda and Siyabonga Dlamini of Nyakeni, who stand accused of contraveni­ng the Public Order Act.

They appeared before Manzini Magistrate Simangele Mbatha yesterday.

They also reportedly started a fire on a public road, an act which was capable of causing danger, obstructin­g and damage of the road, as well infringed upon the road users.

The charge sheet further cites that the students allegedly hindered and prevented the free and proper passage of traffic on a public road by placing tree branches, big rocks, and further threw stones to any motor vehicle passing.

This happened on December 1, 2020. The students face a total of four counts. The accused persons were remanded out of custody till November 30, 2022.

Meanwhile, one Sukulwane Bongumenzi Manana (21) of Ngculwini (Mgconyeni) under Chief Mgebiseni, faced a charge of murder, for allegedly killing Muzi Dlamini on Saturday at Ngculwini.

He was remanded in custody till November 30, 2022.
