CROWN OUTLINES HOW 2 TRAFfIC OFfICERS, OTHERS WERE KILLED

MBABANE - On September 29, 2022, a man who was sitting in his vehicle at his home, said the Crown, saw two boys in front of the house and when asked where they were coming from, they allegedly said they were Nxumalos and had come from Siphambanw­eni.

They are alleged to have said they were seeking assistance for a child who was sick.

“They requested *Sam to call his mother from the big house and he did. When Muzi’s mother came out, she was shot by one of the men. When they shot the deceased, they said; ‘Wena kadze solo sikufuna’. They asked her as to how many people she had killed and they ran away,” alleged the Crown. On October 11, 2022, a woman who was at her shop at Mathangeni said she saw a man talking to her colleague, asking about the cellphones they were selling. The two men, said the Crown, were armed and pointed a firearm at the woman. They allegedly took cash amounting to E1 040, a handbag valued at E220 and loaded nine cellphones.

Approached

Seven days later, in Manzini, a man who was driving along the Grand Valley road saw two men travelling in a silver grey Honda Fit with no registrati­on plates, which was moving slowly. The two are said to have approached two traffic police officers on the side of the road. The officers were Sonnyboy Dlamini and Sifiso Mthembu. The men, according to the Crown, were armed with an R4 rifle.

“The other police officer, Sifiso, was standing next to the road. When the accused persons approached the officers, one of them (men) pulled out a gun and pointed it at the police officers while the other man went to disarm Sonnyboy. They ordered the police officers to lie down and shot them. They boarded the car and drove away,” said the Crown. It was also disclosed by the Crown that on November 4, 2022, a Correction­al officer, Mbongiseni Mthayi Dlamini, was found dead at Lwandle in the Manzini Region. His body was found with gunshot wounds and he was wearing a Correction­al Services uniform. At Ndunayithi­ni, on December 20, 2021, the accused allegedly threw a petrol bomb in a house valued at E1.2 million. Upon petrol-bombing the house, the accused persons allegedly ran away. R1 and R4 rifles were allegedly stolen at Gebeni and used around Sidvokodvo. The Crown did not include the list of witnesses for safety reasons.
