SITEKI – The People’s United Democratic Movement’s (PUDEMO) congress, which was slated to take place later this month, has since been shifted to next month before Christmas.

According to PUDEMO Secretary General (SG) Wandile Dludlu, the national executive committee (NEC) headed by President Mlungisi Makhanya was finalising some important logistics ahead of the congress. The SG said all branches had submitted nominees for the different positions under the party’s NEC hierarchy. Dludlu said the executive had also appointed the head of the independent electoral commission (IEC) who would in turn appoint people to be members of the commission and be in charge of the elections logistics.

Chairman

He asked not to reveal the appointed chairman of the commission but indicated that an announcement would be made soon where the party would unpack the congress’ process and procedures, including the commission to be handling the process. The congress will be held in South Africa at a date and venue yet to be announced by the party.

He added that all the nominees for the different positions had since been handed over to the chairman. “The congress will definitely take place but there have been delays in finalising some logistics. We are optimistic that before Christmas, we will have the congress and representatives from the branches are expected to honour it. Dates and the venue will be announced soon in a press conference,” the SG said.

He added that the nominees would be allowed to lobby once the party had released their names. “We are looking forward to the congress because there will be a lot of discussions and deliberations about the way forward of the struggle,” Dludlu said.
