MBABANE – kindness. It is an act of

Amateur golfer Cosmo Mthethwa has put up a brand-new golf bag up for auction in order to raise funds for Mlandvo Shongwe, a lad with a disability.

The money from the auction will help Shongwe to start a business. Mthethwa, who is a member of the Mbabane Golf Club, won the golf bag valued at E4 500 from the 11th edition of the Previc Golf Challenge staged last Saturday at Mananga Golf Course. In the history of the tournament sponsored by Pastor Victor Masilela, the champion was from outside Mananga Golf Club for the first time.

The golf bag has a reserve prize of E3 500 and interested bidders can contact Mbabane Golf Club Captain Fisiwe Vilane on 7901 1063. Mthethwa narrated having met Shongwe about two months ago at the capital city and he was touched by Shongwe’s condition that had barred him from fending for himself in various ways as he was born without limbs and with deformed legs. Mthethwa said he hoped to raise the money before the festive season so that Shongwe could afford to have a spaza shop as his Christmas gift.

Touched

“When I won the bag last week after I had met Mlandvo and sharing contacts about two months ago, I thought I should auction it so that he could start his own business. When I saw him for the first time, I was deeply touched, wondering how he earned a living considering his physical condition. The money will allow him to register for the Mobile Money business and I think he will need about E10 000 capital to get his business up and running. He is actually the fifth person with disability that I have tried to help,” Mthethwa said.

Beaming with joy and thankful to Mthethwa for the kind gesture, Shongwe said Mthethwa’s actions inspired him to also give back to the less privileged once his business got in motion.

“I recently completed school at St Mark’s and unfortunately, my sponsor, George McIntosh passed away and my sister who was my sole caregiver relocated to Ezulwini because of employment. Now life is really tough. I really appreciate Mthethwa’s effort for trying to help me to make sure that my dream of having a business and independence comes true. His actions also encourage me to continue striving to achieve my dreams and also help others,” he said.

Personal pledges can be directly made to Shongwe who is reachable on contact numbers 7640 2795 or 7971 4520.
