+286$1'6 of emaSwati were recently interviewed by an international organisation, to find out their views regarding Csubjective wellbeing¶ in the kingdom.

Confused" :ell, subjective wellbeing is nothing but happiness.

The interviewers wanted to know how happy emaSwati were.

+appily at least for the duration of the interviews emaSwati responded.

After careful analysis of the data collected, the organisation released the latest *lobal +ealth 5eport, which was unapologetic in saying emaSwati were among the unhappiest nations in Africa. (maSwati were expected to say how they felt about social support like grants and unemployment benefits, life expectancy, freedom to make choices and income.

They also had to have a say on corruption.

:ell, if you sit and think about it, there is a percentage of people who were not interviewed here. These are the happy people of the .ingdom of (swatini, the country previously known as Swa]iland. They would laugh until tears of joy streamed down their well-fed cheeks if you were to tell them that they were unhappy.

They have never experienced any hardship or pain.

They think people who sleep on empty stomachs do so because they are on a diet.

:e are talking about emaSwati here, not foreigners with fat bank accounts and wallets lined with 8nited States Dollars.

They are here, living among us with wallets full of ( and ( banknotes. They just cannot wait for government to introduce the ( banknote.

Some happy people are born with silver spoons in their mouths, because in many cases, silver is more expensive than gold. Take wedding rings, for example.

The silver ones cost much more than gold rings.

Those who watch shows like C0y 3erfect :edding¶ have laughed when a struggling couple itching to blow their neighbours¶ minds away organised a huge and colourful wedding on a shoestring budget.

8sually, when they get to the jewellery shop, the bride and groom avoid the compartment with gold jewels and gravitate towards the one with silver.

EXPENSIVE TASTE

They get shocked when the jeweller says, ³Ah, you have expensive taste, don¶t you"

+appy people think being skinny is a choice and living in stick-and-mud huts is an adventurous way to go through life.

They know they can also easily do this for two or three nights if they visit one of the game reserves for a weekend.

Tell them about walking to school barefoot and they will remind you that they do this all the time when by the poolside.

Sometimes they throw pool parties there and walk barefoot for practically the whole day.

As for corruption«they think this is a scourge that needs to be stamped out of society as Tuick as possible. After all, the main root of corruption is greed.

+appy people are concerned with the levels of greed seen in (swatini, where almost all employees are demanding salary increments.

These days, the call has even been joined by previously docile people like junior police officers and warders. Soldiers have excused themselves from this demand.

,t is said that per cent of emaSwati live on less than ( per day. This means that per cent are happy. These are the people who will tell you with a straight face that (swatini is the best country to live in. They just don¶t understand the growing complaints.

/ooking through the tinted windows of their black S89s while being escorted from .)C to 1ando¶s, they wonder why some people are calling for change when kumnandzi kanje.
