Thieves throw Bible into rubbish bin
MANZINI - A Bible was thrown into a rubbish bin by thieves who broke into Our Lady of Sorrows Clinic and stole a number of items.
The break-in at the clinic, which is located at Hluthi in the Shiselweni Region and is under the Roman Catholic Mission, took place in the early hours of Sunday.
According to a source, the thieves broke into the clinic while there was a heavy storm and as such, the security guards could not see them. The source said the thieves supposedly used an iron bar to break open the padlock at the gate and others at the clinic’s entrance burglar door.
Staff
added that the thieves also stole a computer set.
“The management of the clinic is still trying to verify if the thieves stole some medication because they found some scattered on the floor, hence it became difficult to say how many was stolen, if any,” the source said.
He highlighted that this was not the first break-in at the mission as thieves had used a similar method before when breaking into the clinic and some offices. He said one of the previous break-ins took place in broad daylight (on a Sunday) when everyone was in church.
Broke
The incident was also confirmed by the Roman Catholic Bishop Jose Louis Ponce de Leon on his Twitter account, where he wrote: “Thieves broke into Our Lady of Sorrows Clinic. It’s heartbreaking. Much more when you know the amazing service they offer in the area. The Bible was thrown into the dustbin. Pretty symbolic.”
However, efforts of getting more details from the bishop proved futile as he was not available on both Eswatini Mobile and MTN Eswatini networks yesterday.
Meanwhile, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the break-in.
She said the police were investigating the matter and that according their records, a computer was stolen during the break-in.
