MBABANE – New Miss Eswatini Tania Nunn has come out to declare her first steps towards a better nation.

In an interview with this publication, her first move ‘in office’ will tackle issues of mental health and various disorders in the same space. 6he mentioned that the platform that she has just been given has come with numerous blessings that she would use to defeat this fast-growing killer which has been on the rise of late.

Mental illness, also called mental health disorders, refers to a wide range of mental health conditions disor- ders that affect your mood, thinking and behaviour. Examples of mental illness include depression, anxiety disorders, schi]ophrenia, eating disorders and addictive behaviors.

Issues

This illness latches on and kills people of all ages and in the country. A number of people are affected by it. Nunn mentioned how she was looking forward to executing the different issues brought about by it. ³I will be the voice of the voiceless and I am thrilled to finally be given a platform to advocate about mental health, as it is so important to assist and educate the nation,” said Nunn. 6he further mentioned that she would organise drives which she cannot give full details of as of yet because she was still finding her feet, but she was working on solutions with different brands and companies to help people grow and spread positivity.

In countries like India, the 20 2020 4ueen, Ellie Brook created a ‘mental beauty’ campaign. The project is a safe space for people to celebrate their individuality and post positive stories about themselves. ³I want to turn my passion into a career helping other victims as I once was getting the justice they deserve.” Those were the words of the Tueen during an interview with BBC, which was about the campaign.

6he was also a finalist at the 5oyal International Miss UK in 2020 and also used the platform to spread awareness for mental health conditions, specifically domestic abuse and eating disorders. All her drives were sparked by personal experiences, which came after an attack she endured when she was assaulted on a night out in Halifax and suffered from an eating disorder and was only two pounds away from being admitted to hospital and being fed through a tube.

Instability

Miss Eswatini, Nunn has mentioned how she would give various reasons for picking mental instability, hence the passion she has for it. Catrien Potgieter and the Chief Executive Officer at the Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture mentioned that they would fully support Nunn and all the other Tueens in the activities they would embark on.

Nunn will be taking up the International Tourism course at the Limkokwing University of Technology, which is part of the pri]es she got for winning the title. ³I’m grateful for the privilege to study at Limkokwing University. I’m interested in studying International Tourism because I believe it will enhance my knowledge,” said Nunn.

6he studied Cabin Crew at EPT Aviation Training, and successfully graduated. 6he mentioned that she was passionate about aviation and imagined herself as a future pilot. The actual pri]es will be officially handed over to the winners on a date yet to be confirmed.
