LUBULINI - A 26-year-old man was stabbed in the throat by a mob made up of 17 men at Mahangeni.

Mahangeni is a community located under the Lubulini Constituency. in the Lubombo Region.

Speaking to Eswatini News, Make Duduzile Zwane (mother of the deceased) disclosed that her son, Sambulo Mabuyakhulu worked in Durban, South Africa and he was in the country to spend his leave days with the family.

Narrating the turn of events that led to the murder of her son, Make Zwane stated that her son was in one of the local bars called Eyadini enjoying beverages with his friends.

She said she was home on the night but his friends reported what transpired.

“The friends said it was at around 11pm, last Saturday night, when my son was asked by one of his friends to take a drive around the area . I am not sure why as it was already late at night and they had been drinking .

“As they left the bar, over 17 men blocked the car with beer cases and surrounded it, my son was told to come out of the car, as they wanted to deal with him. It is when he stepped out of the car when one of the men stabbed him in the throat with a large knife,” alleged Zwane.

According to Make Zwane, her late son began to bleed profusely and one of his friends tried to interject but was told to remain in the car as they wanted to make sure that he died on the spot in front of their eyes.

Witness

“The men warned the two friends who were with my son not to dare call the police as they wanted to witness him take his last breath.

“After they were sure he was lifeless, the attackers ran away in different directions.

“That is when his friends called me and told me that they were on their way to Gonco Hospital with the deceased,” narrated an emotional Zwane.

She said she quickly asked one of her neighbours to drive her to the hospital, which is about 20 kilometers away from Mahangeni and that is when she was told he had been certified dead on arrival .

Another family member who preferred to remain anonymous alleged that the deceased was killed because of jealousy.

“One of the friends who were present during the stabbing told us that as the men watched him bleed to death, one said they were sorting him out as he thought he was better than them,” alleged the resident.

Arrived

Members of the Royal Eswatini Police Service arrived at 2am, the following morning at the incident scene.

This was disclosed by the deceased’s mother.

She said police were called that night but only arrived in the morning.

She said they also had reported a second stabbing of the deceased’s brother, who was angered when he heard the news of his brother’s attack and tried to pursue the 17 men on foot and was stabbed.

“He was also stabbed by the same men who had killed his brother but he was fortunate as the police were able to find him on time in the forest after an alarm was sounded.

“He was taken to hospital where he is currently recuperating from the stab wounds,” explained Make Zwane.

Chief Police Information and Communication Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the incident and the arrest of one of the suspects.

Vilakati said the police were currently looking for the other suspects in connection to the murder.
