M– The cost of living with a kidney disease is unbearable for most of the over 400 patients receiving dialysis treatment in Eswatini.

This has necessitated the formation of an organisation to give psychosocial and material support for the patients, most of who are receiving treatment in the country’s three health facilities. The Eswatini Kidney Foundation, whose Chairperson is Busi Dlamini, has partnered with the Mbabane Club for a fundraising event to assist kidney patients. The event will be an aerobathon and bootcamp, which will be held at the club today.

Mbabane Club Gym Instructor Bongani Tiger Mthupha said members of the public were invited to an aerobathon at the Mbabane Club on Saturday between 8am and 12am. He said one of his clients, a medical doctor, had seen the struggles faced by kidney patients and recommended that something be done to benefit them. “After careful consideration, the Mbabane Club thought it was best to come up with an aerobathon and bootcamp event,” he said.

Meanwhile, Dlamini said the patients need money to foot the cost of travel, which is mandatory

Arrest

“Don’t do it again. If it was another person, he was going to get you arrested,” says your stingy boyfriend after taking his E10 note without his permission on a weekly basis, as they receive dialysis in the three heath centres that are Mbabane Government Hospital, Hlatikhulu Government Hospital and the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital.

Support

Dlamini said the patients also need support in the form of medication, food, toiletries and other necessities. It was recently revealed that due to the hardships involved in going through dialysis process on a weekly basis, many patients were dropping out of the treatment schedule, while some were subsequently dying as a result.

Dlamini said her organisation would pull all stops to ensure the number of patients dying

She said many patients had expressed their hardships in attending dialysis sessions religiously. “The foundation is in collaboration with the government to reduce the death rate of patients. When people die, this undermines the efforts of government in ensuring that kidney patients receive full treatment in the country,” she said.

She further said many patients had to change their diets, but struggled to get the food prescribed by doctors because of financial lack. Following the successful implementation of the elective congress by some EFA Member Association, the football association will implement a Football Governance Induction Workshop. This event will be realised tomorrow at the Happy Valley Hotel and Resort in Ezulwini commencing at 9:30am. The participants are the Executive Committee Members and General Secretaries of the EFA Member Associations. Owing to the changes in leadership, administration ascents and most critically the need to remain relevant with the contemporary universal football governance standards for sustainable football development, this workshop’s main objective is to address these areas.

As an effort of developing football, FIFA has implemented the Talent Development Scheme (TDS). The aim of this football development programme is to give a chance to every talented child in the world who wants to play football and help him or her to improve and experience positive emotions. To reach its full potential, each association must be aware of how it needs to support its talented boys and girls. FIFA’s Regional Consultant Serame Letsoaka is currently in the country to kick-start this programme. Today at the King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano the first session will be executed. This event will kick-off at 9am. More sessions will be done in all the four regions of the country.

The EFA acknowledges all the countries from the African continent that are representing Africa in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Over and above that, well done to all the African countries who qualified for the knock-out stage (last 16). Their achievements marketed the African football very well and for Tunisia to win against France who are the world champion cannot be taken lightly. Also, it was good to witness some African referees and more especially from the COSAFA zone officiating during some of the matches. As part of the world cup, today Eswatini TV in collaboration with EFA, KFC, Eswatini Mobile to mention but a few partners, will implement a fan park at Simunye Country Club. It’s better together.

Till next week, football for all and safe life for all.
