Benfica, Sporting stars in Cape Verde squad

MBABANE – The Cape Verde national team yesterday announced their 26-member squad to face Sihlangu.

The squad was published on the Cape Verde Football Associatio­n website www.fcf.cv.

“The technical team led by Bubista called up 26 players, with emphasis on the debuts of defender Ivanildon Fernandes from FC Vizela (Portugal), midfielder David Tavares from FC Famalicão (Portugal). Also returning are goalkeeper Vozinha and winger Willy Semedo,” further read the press release.

The squad also includes the like of Benfica star Gilson Tavares and Sporting Lisbon striker Jovane Cabral.

The squad only has two players who play in Africa and these are goalkeeper Keven Ramos, who plays for CS Mindelense and Edilson Borges who plies his trade at FAR Rabat in Morocco.

Notably, a majority of the players play in Europe, as recently reported by this publicatio­n.

On March 24 (Friday), the Tubaroes Azulis will host Eswatini for the third round of Group B in the game to be played at the National Stadium at 3pm.
