‘Major V’ quotes Bible on drinking of wine

- Sithembile Hlatshwayo

MBABANE – “I drink wine and I cannot deceive people that I do not take it.”

The above sentiment was shared by Prophet Vusumuzi ‘Major V’ Dlamini from the Mountain of Salvation church. The prophet said he could not hide from the people that he sometimes took wine because as a prophet he needed to be lively.

In an interview with this publication, following a video that was trending in social media platforms, the prophet was questioned on what he meant in the video and he responded to the effect that he just wanted to clarify to those who constantly harassed him on the same platform. “I was clarifying for those people who are a nuisance and posted things about me.”

Dlamini quoted a story in the Holy Bible, saying when Esau blessed Jacob, he mentioned that following his feasting in meat and wine, he should be blessed by God abundantly with wine and sorghum. The prophet said everything was a blessing from God. He stated that there were some people on social media who always targeted him whenever he posted something.

These people, he said, would then take his post and place alcohol bottles below it, hence he chose to respond this way to tell them that some things were not sinful. “There is no one who knows sin on earth.” He said he usually drank wine whenever he felt the urge, but not at all times.

Reverend Themba Ngozo said if indeed Prophet ‘Major V’ consumed alcohol, it was wrong and a bad example because he was a church leader. Ngozo said the titles of pastors and prophets should be aligned with ‘fruits’ or good behaviour. He urged the League of Churches, where the prophet was affiliated, to deal with the issue.

When reached for comment on the matter, League of Churches President Bishop Samson Hlatshwako confirmed that the prophet was their member. Hlatshwako said when registering members, they required a Constitution which states whether the member believed in Christ Jesus. He stated that he had not yet seen the video but if it was indeed true, it was erroneous.

The president stated that they would look into the matter.
