MBABANE – Comedian and content creator Dr Shakes has been offered an opportunit­y to rub shoulders with South African comedy giants.

In a press statement, Savanna cider %rand 0anager .ayla Hendricks said the awards gave them the opportunit­y to uplift the nation through humour by celebratin­g the iconic comedians who kept the country laughing.

“The &omics¶ &hoice $wards is a platform to showcase long-standing and up-and-coming local talent and to collaborat­e on how the industry grows and becomes a sustainabl­e livelihood for these talents comedians.

“For me it is less about the glamour of the event but the networking I will be doing. I¶m looking forward to establishi­ng more industry contacts and who knows, maybe bag bookings,” he said.

'r Shakes has over the years performed outside the country, and developed strong working relationsh­ips with comedians like Skhumba, Sifiso Nene and Thandiwe among others. The invitation sent to 'r Shakes, born %onginkhosi 'lamini stated that it would be a pleasure to have his presence at the prestigiou­s event.

“However, we will still be celebratin­g the comics who have made us laugh over the past year in an industry that has done incredible things,” she said.

She said the Savanna Newcomer Showcase gives a platform to those who may not have had the opportunit­y to perform on such a big stage throughout their careers so far.

“It is an important element of the Savanna &omics¶ &hoice $wards and a great way to open the industry and introduce the local comedy space to some fresh talent,” she said.
