MBABANE – The Ngwenya Half Marathon to take place today is a drive to improve waste recycling in the country from five to 40 per cent.

This was revealed by Bush Travel Tours Managing Director (MD) Daniel Bush, organisers of the event in a pre-race briefing held at Ngwenya Glass yesterday.

The half marathon attracted over 100 participates, to battle for E20 000 prizes up for grabs.

The Green Series includes the Ngwenya Half Marathon, Green Walks to old Ngwenya mine (8.5km), Ngwenya Village (5km) and Green Wheelies on unicycle and wheelchair. Bush Travel Tours called emaSwati to join the event.

Marathon

“Tomorrow (today) is a big day with the Ngwenya half marathon taking place. Families are invited to come because it is a set-up where you can learn as a family.

“The children should learn from a young age how to recycle waste which is going to make a big impact. The goal for Eswatini is to rise up from five per cent waste recycling to 40 per cent waste recycling. Let us come in the marathon and make an impact,” he said.

The MD mentioned that the cause behind the Ngwenya half marathon was about raising awareness on the impact of waste on climate change.

“We want to educate people in the country and all of us as consumers on waste recycling. The marathon is a fun way to come together and enjoy the green nature while we learn to educate ourselves,” Bush said.

Some of the partners are Bush Travel Tours, Ngwenya Glass, Eswatini Environmental Authority (EEA), Destiny group, Dixie’s International, Times of Eswatini, the Fitness Zone Gym and the Eswatini and Tourism Authority.
