‘Bull’ ’keeper on ‘Amatuks’ radar
MBABANE – South Africa (SA)’s Motsepe Foundation championship side University of Pretoria, are interested in Mbabane Highlanders number one goalkeeper Khanyakwezwe Shabalala.
This was revealed by Inkunzi Emnyama Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe when reacting to the statement made by former gaffer Marumo Gallant Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, who is now with the DStv Premiership side.
The latter was quoted saying he was monitoring some players from Highlanders.
Kgomongwe said this was a good thing that some of the black and white capital city giants’ players were being scouted by teams beyond the country’s borders.
He then disclosed that the only official request that he got from SA was that of the University of Pretoria, who are also known as ‘Amatuks’.
“I have seen the statement made by Sly and I was very happy as it shows that we have quality players. This is not the only team, as I have received some offers. Amatuks were the only team that came to enquire about Khanya,” Kgomongwe said.
The Simunye Group chairman said he was ready to release the former Sihlangu second choice to the SA team as it would benefit the player, Highlanders as well as the national team. Kgomongwe also revealed that he was currently busy with negotiations for another Sihlangu player in Philani Mkhonto with a top DStv Premiership side, but did not want to go into details about it. “I can’t reveal the name of the team for now as it might jeopardise our negotiations, but I will give the details soon,” he said.
The SA businessman and politician also said he was ready to release the galaxy of stars hunted by the teams outside the country as Highlanders had invested in a number of good youngsters, who were the future of the Solomon ‘Solly’ Luvhengo-led side. He further said he was not shocked about Mosala’s statement as they were always in touch with him almost every day and he was following the team’s progress in the league.
Sly left the black and white capital city giants after their game against DStv Premiership outfit Royal AM in the 2022/23 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
