MANZINI - “We are tired of voting for the same families.”

7his was the assertion by a Man]ini 6outh &onstituency member when making a submission during the civic and voter exercise. 7he constituent said some of them were tired of the current system, which was seemingly not working, where they witnessed family members being voted for term after term. ³6ome of us believe this system is not working. How can you best advise us because we are tired of having the same families into power"” he asked.

Meanwhile, 6ibusiso 'lamini Tuestioned if voting was fair in the kingdom. According to the constituent, it was unfair because the .ing appointed people into 6enate, while the House of Assembly was eligible to vote for , much against from constituencies. He submitted that the law of the country allowed freedom of expression. However, he Tuestioned the limitations of the law on Members of 3arliament M3s . 'lamini said he was asking because there were some M3s who were currently incarcerated because they expressed themselves.

Expression

He said one of them was in exile because he exercised freedom of expression.

³Are the M3s who we are going to vote for going to freely exercise freedom of expression, because as it were, some M3s are in prison for that"” he posed. He further submitted that some ema6wati were dissatisfied with the current system and wanted the multiparty system of voting. He reTuested the EB& to advise them on how best they could fulfill this desire.

On another note, 'umisani 'lamini highlighted that as far as he knew, gatherings at constituency centres were banned after people convened to petition their M3s.

³3erhaps , am behind, was this ban later uplifted" &an we now go back to constituencies and petition our M3s. , see the elections process is underway as though things are normal, does this imply that the ban was lifted"” he asked. He further Tueried how they were going to petition M3s if they were failing to do their jobs.

³, am asking this so that we know that we are voting for people we can petition,” he said. 5esponding to the submissions, EB& Education )acilitator 9usumu]i Mdluli said he was not in a position to respond to the political Tuestions.
