MBABANE – Eswatini’s political situation is expected to be part of the discussions to be held by South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa and Namibia President Hage Geingob.

Geingob will be undertaking a State visit to the Republic of South Africa on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Presidency, South Africa; “The visit aims to solidify bilateral relations between the two countries and it is expected that President Ramaphosa and President Geingob will discuss political and economic issues, including regional, continental and international matters of mutual concern, including exchanging views on the political situation in Eswatini, conflict in Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), Palestine and the Russia – Ukraine situation.”

Solutions

President Geingob is currently the Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation and has been hands on in finding solutions to Eswatini’s political issues. He had visited the country last year as part of his engagements to find solutions to the country’s political impasse.

He took the chairmanship from President Ramaphosa last year August. Both presidents made their different efforts in assisting Eswatini to find lasting solutions. For instance, President Ramaphosa, during his tenure as Chairperson of SADC Organ on Politics, did visit Eswatini and further sent a fact-finding mission, which met with different stakeholders.

When sought for comment, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Thuli Dladla said the two presidents were sitting presidents on the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation, hence the meeting would probably be that they would like to catch up on those issues affecting the SADC Region.

Dladla said she was not aware of the agenda of the meeting for the two presidents but they would keep an ear on the news of what would be discussed about Eswatini.
