MBABANE - A Limkokwing University of Creative Technology student has decried a permanent loss of his special coins after a break-in at his rented flat at Qobonga.

Phiwokuhle Maseko told the court that he was not prepared to lose his Taiwanese, Mozambican and E1 coins with an inscription of King Sobhuza anytime soon.

He said this when testifying against Celani Dlamini (24) of Nkhaba, who is accused of breaking into his house and stealing items valued at E10 210.

The stolen items, according to the charge sheet, included two cellphones, money in cash amounting to over E2 800, including the coins, student card, bank card, bags and clothing, all totalling E10 210.

Maseko told the court that he discovered that his house had been broken into when he returned home.

Evidence that was presented in court pointed out that Dlamini was caught through one of the stolen cellphones, which he borrowed to his neighbour of his rented flat. His neighbour, Zandile Shongwe, told the court that Dlamini first lent her E300 and left a cellphone as security. Shongwe stated that Dlamini returned after four days and lent her a smart phone before she went to deliver her child at the Mbabane Government Hospital. “I received a call from a police officer who said he was calling from the Criminal Investigations Department in Mbabane. I directed the police officer to my rented flat because I could not walk a long distance after an operation. The police officer enquired about the cellphone and I told him that I got it from Dlamini. He then requested for Dlamini’s cellphone number, however, his number was not available on the mobile network,” she told the court.

She told the court that the police officer advised her to tell Dlamini to report to the police station as soon as he returned to his house. Shongwe told the court that she then made means to get hold of Dlamini however, she stated that she got information that Dlamini had left the country for South Africa.

She stated that she conveyed the message as soon as Dlamini returned to his flat. She positively identified the cellphone as the one that she was borrowed by Dlamini.

The matter continues in court.
