O˜t monitoring

- BY NHLANGANISO MKHONTA

MBABANE – Government is closely monitoring the respective covert sponsors and activities of the NGO that is behind the scenes of the political machinations aimed at stealing the upcoming general elections.

The above was stated by Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo, in an interview with this publication on Monday. This comes after Nxumalo issued a statement over the weekend, stating that a certain non-governmental organisation’s (NGO) money was used to push regime change in Parliament.

In the statement, Nxumalo alleged that the money had been ‘made readily available like dust for anyone’ who intended to run for a parliamentary seat, so long as that particular candidate would buy into the agenda for regime change.

Nxumalo further alleged that the NGO had made itself a stooge for political parties with mischievous agendas.

He pointed out that it had made itself available as a vehicle through which anarchy and destabilisation could be imported into the kingdom.

In the interview on Monday, Nxumalo named the organisation he was referring to.

When asked about what government was doing about this NGO as it (government) was confident about its allegations against it, he said government could not, at this stage, disclose the strategy of counter- reaction. He said, however, no one person/ persons or groups could be allowed to tamper with the will of the people of this country under the watch of a true government.

“That’s why these NGOs have been banned as the case may be in other countries such as Zimbabwe and Uganda,” he said.

When sought for comment, the executive director of the NGO said he did not want to comment on propaganda, people and issues he did not know.

The Coordinating Assembly of Non-Governmental Organisations (CANGO) Executive Director Thembinkosi Dlamini said government should take charge and prosecute anyone or any organisation that was breaking the law, other than going around making unfounded allegations.
