MBABANE - 'Overwhelming', ‘a new chapter’, ‘unbelievable’. These were the words used by upcoming musicians Daureen the Vocalist (Daureen Shiba) and Young Yeezy (Ntando Matibuko) who performed a song before Their Majesties during a birthday party for the King last Wednesday.

His Majesty the King turned 55 years on April 19, 2023.

A birthday party was held at Lozitha Royal Palace, on the day. It was a dream come true for the two who are pupils at Dvokolwako High School.

Daureen the Vocalist is doing Form V and she is also the head girl of the school, while Young Yeezy is a Form IV pupil.

In an article published on the Times SUNDAY on April 2, 2023, the pupils had expressed interest in singing before the King for his birthday. The song is titled, ‘Balisikemayini’. According to Daureen the Vocalist, the song was written by Young Yeezy. She said she is a musician, but that one day, in preparation for their school's 'Culture Day, Young Yeezy asked her to back a song he had written. She said the duo then performed the song which became a hit at the school. Young Yeezy said he composed the song. Daureen said performing before the King was an overwhelming experience. She said it was a great opportunity for them to sing before their Majesties. She thanked her schoolmates and teachers for believing in them.

Also, Daureen thanked Ndzingeni Member of Parliament (MP) Lutfo Dlamini for assisting them to get the opportunity to perform before the King. She said he had become like a father to them. She is from Bulandzeni area under Ndzingeni Inkhundla.

The young musician also revealed that she loves Biology and that in future she would pursue a career as a cardiologist.

Young Yeezy equally expressed the same excitement, adding that the experience of singing before Their Majesties was unbelievable.

He said from a distance, what touched him most was that the King and the guests were enjoying the performing. When he was asked how he came up with the song, Yeezy said he considered the current political turmoil. He said it made him think about the King and wondered that maybe he may think the people no longer loved him. "We love the King no matter what can happen," said Yeezy. He said the song was composed as a reminder to the King that even though the situation may appear like there was turmoil, he was deeply loved. Young Yeezy said this was the reason they wanted to perform before the King, so that they could convey the message to him. He said, their number one priority was to convey this message to the King.

The young performers both said they were also happy with the response they received from guests at the party.

They said it was heartwarming to see that the guests were also enjoying their song.
