SITEKI – The digital system upgrading process has delayed the issuance of loans for members of Imbita Swaziland Women’s Finance Trust.

Yesterday, several members expressed frustration that they had not been successful in getting loans yet they had been saving for over a year.

One member said she started saving in June last year. The aggrieved member also mentioned that they had been sent from pillar to post when they enquired about their loan applications.

“I have saved for over six months at Imbita but my application has not been approved, yet the purpose of saving with the trust was to get finance to kick-start an income generating project. I am not alone in this dilemma,” said the aggrieved member.

Adding, another member mentioned that they had also not held an annual general meeting (AGM), to be appraised of the financial statements of the trust. “We are in the dark because we are not updated on our savings after our log books were taken from us,” said the member.

Responding to the queries, the trust’s Director, Sibongile Mthembu, clarified that the trust was currently undertaking an upgrade of its digital system, hence the delay in the disbursement of loans to members.

Mthembu said members had been enlightened and capacitated about the upgrading of their operational systems through their Facebook page and roadshows.

The director shared that the membership should also be cognisant of the fact that the trust was not a cooperative but a trust that only provided financial advice and training to members who applied for loans to start businesses.
