MANZINI - There should be fair remunerati­on for those involved in the book industry to make literature and culture a true ‘global public good.’

This was a reTuest made by the 8nited Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cul tural 2rganisati­on (8NESC2), during the commemorat­ion of :orld %ook and Copyright 'ay 2 2 . It was hosted at $lcon +ouse in 0an]ini.

Through 'irector *eneral of 8N ESC2, $udrey $]oulay, through 'i neo 'lamini, she urged the country to support the online circulatio­n of works from all cultures and in all languages, as well as the fair remunerati­on of all those involved in the book industry in order to make literature as well as all culture in general a true µglobal public good’.

$]oulay, mentioned that books were some of the most remarkable obMects in existence, and yesterday’s commemo ration was dedicated to them.

She said a book, whatever its format, was an essential means of education and a source of knowledge.

She further mentioned that every writ ten language brings with it a particular worldview a particular perspectiv­e on things and on beings and a particular way of thinking and feeling.
