RUSSIA - Vladimir Putin unleashed a barrage of missiles and kamikaze drones at Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities overnight, a day after Russia accused Ukraine of trying to assassinate the despot with a drone strike on the Kremlin.

Around 40 explosive-laden drones with ‘for Moscow’ scrawled on them were fired at cities across Ukraine that were miles away from the front line, with explosions heard in Kyiv and the southern cities of Odesa and Zaporizhzhia.

The strikes came hours after Moscow accused Ukraine of trying to assassinate Putin in a double drone strike on the Kremlin - claims Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has denied.

Overnight, a furious Putin launched 24 Shahed drones packed with explosives at Kyiv, with another 15 suicide UAVs unleashed on Odesa by the Black Sea but Ukraine’s air force managed to intercept the vast majority of the weapons.

Missiles and drones also rained down on the southern city of Nikopol, destroying 11 Ukrainian homes and injuring a 32-year-old man. No deaths have been reported from the strikes so far.

The blasts come after Russia’s ex-president Dmitry Medvedev yesterday called for the ‘physical elimination’ of Zelenskyy amid accusations that Kyiv was trying to kill Putin in an alleged drone strike on the Kremlin.

But Zelenskyy denied Moscow’s claims and British security officials believe the drone strike on the Kremlin was a cynical ‘false flag’ operation by Russia in order to distract Ukraine from its counter-offensive and rally up support back home.

LONDON - The Mall in London is already filling up with campers stocked up with tinned all-day breakfasts, booze and bunting but some have been targeted by thieves stealing their tents and valuables when they need the toilet, MailOnline can reveal.

Tony Lown (36), has taken his children and niece out of school this week so they can be in London for the coronation. He has set up a table for them to do royal-related homework and will rely on a nearby McDonalds for hot meals.

Another couple jetted in from New Zealand for a trip that will cost them £5 000 and are camped near a group of women nicknamed ‘The Golden Girls’ after meeting for the first time at the Platinum Jubilee and agreeing to reunite for the coronation.

Tents

Many are sleeping in tents - one man has had two stolen already - but some are just sleeping on the floor. With rain and thunder forecast in the coming days, many are likely to get very wet.

Army veteran Geoffrey York enjoyed an all-day breakfast in a tin this morning, costing £2.25, which includes baked beans, sausages, button mushrooms, chopped pork and egg nuggets with bacon burger pieces, all cooked up on a camping stove.

Others tucked into smoked salmon and basil rolls as they sat on camping chairs next to their tents.

Hot drinks were also being consumed with one group of five royalists pictured with camping mugs as they stood next to the crowd barriers on the famous road.

York ( 69), said he has been making hot drinks for fellow campers and told MailOnline: ‘You can either sleep rough or come prepared.’ He also has a table with a box of sugar, camping mug and milk on the table in front of him - as well as an opened pack of digestives.
