R225k worth of drugs found
KIMBERLEY - Northern Cape police have arrested an undertaker and another suspect after drugs worth hundreds of thousands of Rands were found hidden in a hearse in Kimberley. Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock, said officers from the provincial Organised Crime Unit followed up on information about a stationary vehicle parked at the North Cape Mall on Tuesday. “When the team approached the mall parking area, they found the silver Chrysler hearse in the parking area, which they searched and discovered mandrax and tik in a compartment in the back of the vehicle,” Kock said.
False prophet alert
JOHANNESBURG - A 74-yearold pensioner from Mamelodi has been robbed of R5 350 by an unknown man pretending to be a prophet. The ‘false prophet’ arrived on the doorstep of Annah Makhumisane’s house in Mamelodi East Extension 5 on Friday, May 5 at around 10am and asked if her daughter Lebo was there. “The man wearing the ZCC church badge told me that he is a spiritual person and was guided to my house to come and heal my aching body,” said Makhumisane. Makhumisane said she was with her son when the man ordered them to buy various remedies to ease her aches and pains.
Sudanese flee homes
SUDAN - More than 700 000 people have fled their homes in Sudan to escape from fighting between rival military factions, the International Organisation for Migration said on Tuesday. It was not immediately clear if they were heading to Sudan’s seven international borders, over which at least 150 000 people have crossed, according to data from the UN refugee agency.
LONDON - ITV has been struck with a record number of Ofcom complaints following Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh’s coronation comments about the Royal Family being ‘terribly white’. The actress, who has also starred in Doctor Who and played lead roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, appeared during ITV’s coverage of King Charles III’s coronation and made the remark about the royals while they were standing on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

ITV has now been hit with a whopping 4 165 Ofcom complaints, making it the most complained about moment this year. In comparison, Jeremy Vine’s show was hit with 2 250 Ofcom complaints after a discussion about junior doctors pay dispute.
Last year, the most-complained about programme of 2022 was Love Island which received 2 360 complaints on July 17 after alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour by some contestants in the villa.
In second place was I’m a Celebrity .... Get me out of here! from November 6-27 where viewers objected to the inclusion of Matt Hancock in the series.
Other notable complained about moments included 860 complaints against comments made by Richard Madeley about death threats to Keir Starmer on Good Morning Britain and Gary Neville’s politicised comments during the World Cup Final in 2022, which received 605 complaints.
