MBABANE – Award-winning comedian Mduduzi ‘Mdura’ Dlamini celebrated his birthday on Friday evening and gathered with his close friends at the 23:28 Lounge at Checkers for what was a wholesome night.

Besides being a comedian he is also a creative writer, actor and content creator.

Dlamini whose stage name is ‘Mdura the Comedian’, burst onto the comedy scene in 2014, when he won in the competition called ‘LOL Comedy Competition’.

He impressed the judges and audience with his everyday life inspired comedy about relationships, stereotypes, religion and his personal life.

Job

The comedian, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science Degree from the University of Eswatini, left his full-time job to concentrate on his passion, which is stand-up comedy in 2015.

He has since made history by being the first professional liSwati comedian to have a one-man show which also sold out.

The evening had a lot of exciting live performances from the comedian himself and other supporting acts such as DJ Cybos, DJ Cup and many audience members were awarded the opportunity to step on the stage and share a few of their favourite tunes for the karaoke session of the night.

The night kicked off with the establishment’s regular customers socialising and having a few conversations among each other and enjoying the overall ambience of the place. More customers started coming into the place just before the clock struck 8pm and the place was nearly full.

Mdura’s partner in crime for the Thursday Comedy show which is also held at the 23:28 Lounge was holding it down on the decks and his great transitions kept the people who were enjoying their drinks on their feet.

One fun lover who was interviewed by this publication did not know that it was Mdura’s birthday celebration on the night, but finding out about it edged him to stay.

Establishment

“I make sure I attend at least two nights per month of the Thursday Comedy nights and now that I know it’s my boy’s birthday, I am not going anywhere, he needed to be supported for all the times he made us laugh,” mentioned Siyabonga commonly known as ‘Foza4’.

23:28 Lounge resident DJ and ‘Amaphupho’ hitmaker DJ Cup was also not to be outdone, when he was given the opportunity to stand behind the decks, even the birthday boy couldn’t control the urge to dance.

The night was filled with heart-warming moments where the Mdura’s friends gathered to sing him a happy birthday song and also when he was told to share his speech of appreciation.

He also took 10 shots courtesy of his friends.

Another highlight of the evening was when some patrons went to the front of the stage to try out the karaoke session. The celebration went on even after 10pm and through the glimpses of laughter and smiles from the birthday boy and the people, it sure was a great night.
