MBABANE – Alfred Gidaga completed his 25th run at the Manzini Golf Course on Saturday.
The Manzini parkrunner began his parkrun journey on August 27, 2022, where he set a time of 48:58 minutes and was placed position 18th overall.
His current personal best (PB) time is 38:55 minutes, which he achieved on September 10, 2022. Gidaga is part of the volunteer duties covering roles such as park walker, post-event close down and tail walker. Manzini Parkrun Event Organiser Amon Shamilimo congratulated Gidaga for his achievement.
The Manzini Parkrun’s 40th edition saw the male record of 15:48 minutes, which was set by Mancoba Nhlabatsi on January 21, 2023, intact as the first runner home on Saturday failed to break it. It was Timothy Abraham, who clocked 20:28 minutes.
Finish
It was his second first place finish. Taking the second spot was Ronny Mawelela, who recorded a time of 26:03 minutes. Completing the top three was Shamilimo in a time of 28:00 minutes.
Meanwhile, the ladies record of 22:23 minutes set by Tracy Rankin on August 20, 2022, will stand for another week.
The first place finisher in the ladies section, Nkosingiphile Chemane, failed to break Tracy’s record, as she completed the 5km course in a time of 49:38 minutes. This was Chemane’s new personal best time. The second lady home was Zanele Bhembe in a time of 50:42 minutes. The third position went to Victoria Nxumalo, who recorded a time of 54:15 minutes.
