7he word democracy is not foreign in (swatini as the &onstitution states ³(swatini is a unitary, democratic Ningdom.´ 6ection states that the country follows a democratic and par ticipatory system based on 7inNhundla. 8nfortunately, the &onstitution does not define in detail what democracy means in (swatini¶s conte[t.

'emocracy can be literally translated by the following government of the people or government of the majority.

$s democracy is about the will of the people, elections form the core in test ing the will of the people. ,t is encour aging to note that post colonial 6tates in $frica have embraced democracy.

Wellbeing

$t the founding of the $frican 8nion $8 in , promoting democracy was at the core. 7herefore, democracy is about social wellbeing. +ence, there is merit that democracy is not just a process of electing a government but it is about the participation of people in electing a government that will ad vance human development hence the relationship between democracy and good governance.

,t is my contention that it is incumbent upon citi]ens to demand for a democ racy they want. 7his is democracy which is underpinned by the rule of law, separation of powers, transpar ency and accountable government, universal suffrage, freedom of speech and association, freedom of the media to mention a few. :e have seen that even the most stable democracies also face challenges. +ence, the people taNe to the streets to campaign for the democracy they want.
