MBABANE – MTN Premier League champions Green Mamba could find themselves in trouble with the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE).

The Correctional Services side’s supporters, who came to witness their team being crowned the 2022/23 MTN Premier League champions at Nsukuwansuku Stadium in Mhlume on Sunday, invaded the pitch to celebrate the success.

Green Mamba beat defending champions Royal Leopard 2-1 in the final day of the season to win their third league title in four years.

The supporters, who most of them were taken from the Matsapha Correctional facility, could not hold themselves at the sound of the final whistle by FIFA-accredited referee Letticia Viana, as they invaded the pitch in sheer jubilation.

as Head Coach Ernest Mavuso; this episode lasted for almost 30 minutes as they danced inside the pitch.

The supporters’ misconduct of invading the pitch is frowned upon by the 2022/23 MTN Premier League Rules and Regulations. Article 10.6. Article 10.6.1 states clearly that invading the pitch before, during and after a game by supporter(s), fan(s), steward(s) or spectator(s) celebrating a goal carries a summary fine of E25 000 by the PLE.

Wrath

The champions could also attract the wrath of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Disciplinary Committee (DC) Chaired by Thulani Sibandze, for contravening Article 10.6.7 which states that failure to control fan(s), supporter(s), official(s), steward(s), the offender could be fined not less than E25 000 by the DC.

In summary, the team could pay a total amount of E50 000, with E25 000 paid as a summary fine by the PLE with the other half by the DC should the team be hauled before them.
