Caring Hands gives shoes, pads to pupils
- Holding true to its name, the Caring Hands Foundation has donated 11 pairs of shoes and distributed sanitary pads to Ngcoseni Primary School children.
The distribution of 11 pairs of Toughees shoes worth E3 400 and sanitary pads was done on Wednesday at the school in Mankayane by a team from the foundation.
The donation was supported by Eagles Transport, which made a significant contribution in the donation of pads.
Ngcoseni Primary School senior teacher Innocent Matsebula said the donation came at an opportune time, when the cold winter season was upon them.
The donation was well received by the pupils who were all smiles and expressed their excitement by singing and dancing.
Matsebula said: “A majority of children at the school come from impoverished backgrounds, where you find that they lack proper quality shoes which easily get worn-out from walking in muddy roads. The donation is greatly appreciated, as it will go a long way in ensuring that the children are kept in school.”
He appreciated the donation of sanitary pads, adding that providing a girl with these may help increase her chances of staying in school. Matsebula said some children were in need of these, and some would even miss school during their menstrual cycle.
Meanwhile, the foundation’s Director, Temaswati Dlamini said it was fulfilling to make the contribution to the rising stars who were the future leaders of the country. Dlamini expressed hope that the contribution would go a long way in planting a seed of hope to the children to be diligent in their academic work. She encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to learn and acquire knowledge, so that they could be better citizens and leaders of the country in the near future.
Caring Hands Foundation was registered as a non-profit organisation on November 25, 2020 by siblings who were inspired by the passion their mother had for the less privileged. The siblings had the opportunity to witness their mother providing meals, clothes and food parcels, as well as school fees top-up to the underpriviledged.
The foundation team saw the need in the community and decided to start the initiative in order to reach out to more people in the community, further expanding countrywide.
The vision of the foundation is to promote social and economic empowerment, health, education, as well as good governance which involved access to justice, accountable institutions, peaceful and inclusive societies.
Previous projects hosted by the foundation include the gender equality summit, gender budgeting, women empowerment seminars and capacitating men and boys on positive masculinity through organising sporting events and dialogues.
