‘Birds’ face AmaZulu in Africa Day tourney

MBABANE - Capital City giants Mbabane Swallows have been invited to participat­e in the Africa Day this coming weekend in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

This was according to a correspond­ence released by the club yesterday evening.

The team is set to depart tomorrow morning to honour the invitation from KwaZulu - Natal Province Sport, Arts and Culture.

“This letter serves to confirm receipt by Mbabane Swallows FC for invitation to participat­e in Africa Day on May 25-26, 2023.

“We appreciate the invite and further confirm that the team will honour the match.

“We await further logistics preparatio­n inclusive of transfer of participat­ion fee.

Departure

“We confirm departure and arrival in KZN on May 25, 2023 (tomorrow) midday in Pietmaritz­burg, we further request access to a training ground on arrival day,” reads part of the letter from Swallows confirming the invitation.

Mbabane Swallows General Manager (GM) Sandile ‘Beyond 2000’ Zwane confirmed the latest developmen­ts and said they were going to honour the invite from the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

“Mbabane Swallows are not only the biggest brand in the country, but also recognised throughout the continent.

“We are grateful for this invitation which means that the club is known in Africa .

“We are happy to be part of this initiative and we want to urge our supporters who have contribute­d to the club to be where it is now to come support the team in the Kwazulu-Natal Province.

“We want to thank the Government of South Africa for inviting the team.

“Apologies to supporters for telling them at such short notice.

“We apologise to them and we we got the invite today (yesterday) and had to go through the president of the club ,” he said.

Intended

Africa Day is intended to celebrate and acknowledg­e the successes of the Organisati­on of African Unity (OAU now the AU) from its creation on May 25, 1963, in the fight against colonialis­m and apartheid, as well as the progress that Africa has made while reflecting upon the common challenges that the continent faces in a global environmen­t.
