MBABANE - Mbabane Swallows free-scoring midfielder Felix ‘Fela’ Badenhorst says he will respect and take Sihlangu Head Coach Dominic Kunene’s advice.

Despite ending the past season with 20 league goals and winning the top scorer award, the on-form Umkhonto KaShaka attacking player was once again left out of the national team squad to take on Togo in the TotalEnergies 2023 AFCON Qualifiers.

The former Jomo Cosmos player, in an interview yesterday afternoon, revealed that he would take positively the advice given to him by the national team head coach.

“Well, like I said before, I respect the coach and his decisions pertaining to the selection of the players.

“I will kindly take his advice with a positive attitude and I actually feel lucky because he said what I need to work on unlike other deserving players who have been left out like Junior Magagula, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo and Njabulo ‘Mazza’ Tfwala, who don’t know what else they must do to be called up.

Support

“But this is our team; we have to support those who are there,” he said.

The coach had reportedly advised Badenhorst to keep on banging in the goals even against tougher oppositions, assuring that he would be considered for future selection.

Meanwhile, the MTN top scorer also revealed that they were left disappointed after failing to win the 2022/23 MTN Premier League with his club.

“We wanted to win the league and it was the target of the club to do well in terms of the league.

“The league was our objective and which wasn’t to be. As a team we tried our best.

“We lost it in the last five games which were very crucial.

“We will try our best next season and I believe with the players that we have in the team we can be able to compete next season,” Badenhorst said.

He, who will be among the players in contention for the MTN Player of the Season award, which carries a sum of E15 000 said he was happy to finish the season as the MTN top goal scorer.
