MHLANGATANE – The sudden death of a 10-year-old girl has left more questions than answers. Sethu Magagula died about a week ago while at her grandfather’s home around Sidwashini under Ntfonjeni Inkhundla. According to a report covered by the Times of Eswatini, Sethu was found dead by her grandfather, who is said to have sent her into a maize storage tank. The young girl is said to have been sent to the maize container but when her grandfather realised that she was not returning to the house, he followed up to check on her.

It is was gathered that when he went to check on her, he could not see her and decided to look into the tank where he then saw the young girl’s lifeless body. Allegations were that she fell inside by incident.

As the grandfather peeped through also fell and died. Initially, it was reported that he had injured himself and died while trying to check on his granddaughter.

None of the family members are said to have heard the two either calling for help. It took some time for other family members to notice that Sethu and her grandfather were not around on the Sunday evening.

After noticing that the duo was not returning from the maize tank, shocked family members then discovered that they were unconscious in the tank.

Upon realising that the two

were inside the tank and unconscious, some of the family members decided to tilt it over, hoping that they were still alive. However, they were already dead.

A family member said they had thought that maybe the two had suffocated inside the maize storage container as it was hot. He said they then assumed that maybe there was a chemical that

was used to kill pests and that they accidentally inhaled and died.

It was not clear from previous conversations with some of the family members who said they were not sure what killed suggestion that Sethu and grandfather.

One of the assumption was that she may have inhaled a substance while inside the tank because it was hot and then died.

Another suggested that she may have injured herself. However, there was no physical injury on her body.
