From top defender to inyanga

-

We have been wondering what happened to this promising defender who burst into the scene around 2009/10. He was playing for one of the big three sides and had formed a rock solid defensive pairing with another retired star who now works for one of the financial institutions.

Yeah

Yeah, yeah

T Oavoid being judged, we will let you figure out the name of the artist of the song lesingena ngayo. The socalled month of love is upon us, so it justifies the lyrics of the song. The countdown has begun for those who believe in celebrating Valentine’s Day. For us as Shwashwaza Crew, we spread love throughout the year and we send flowers to our lovers every month. On top of the flowers siye sifake envelope lena E10 000 ekhatsi kwatise kutsi sihlale siphetse imali lengagobeki.

In everything you set out to do, we hope the love spirit will prevail and there will be zero cases of any form of abuse. Before we start sounding like Dr Love, we will stop it there gazi. Before we say much, we join the entire football fraternity in mourning the untimely death of one of Eswatini’s celebrated soccer legends, Bongani ‘Ndezi’ Masangane, who starred for Sihlangu, Mbabane Highlanders and South Africa’s Black Leopards

in his heydays.

In the field of play, it has been another exciting ‘Y’ello’ week in what can be dubbed the Premier League of twists and turns. Iseyindze indlela but tsine, as we are gifted in predicting the future, we foresee a three-horse race. We know the teams that are contenders not pretenders. In fact we even know who will win it but we can’t disclose the name for ethical reasons.

Through u-Mntolo, who is in charge of the weekend sports section, we have an understanding of journalism, so we know the importance of upholding a high ethical standard. In our next life, we will be journalists. Hehehehe.

Speaking of excitement, some of the teams representing the Southern Africa Region are punching above their weight in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast. Angola and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana were the last two standing teams from the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) after the last 16 games played early in the week. The latter came dangling underdog nametags against powerhouse and Africa’s top-ranked side, Morocco on Tuesday, but at the end, a red carpet had to be rolled out for them following a gutsy performance. Seyifike ebumnandzini bayo and we eagerly await next Sunday when the winners ascend to the podium to claim the over E130 million first prize.

SiHLAngU

We hope the national team, Sihlangu; coaches are watching the games with keen interest, as some of the opponents have been in the tournament. Ahead of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers next month, every nation out there is a possible opponent. There are a lot of lessons for both the technical team and the country’s administrators. To the remaining teams in the tournament, we can say, hambani ke nihlabane.

By now gazi you know that we no longer beat around the bush, so asivele sicondze endzabeni.

We have been wondering what happened to this promising defender who burst into the scene around 2009/10. He was playing for one of the big three sides and had formed a rock solid defensive pairing with another retired star who now works for one of the financial institutions. We still remember the defender without our memories being jogged, as he was one of the

players to watch during one of the finals back in 2010.

The cat is out of the bag. The defender sewungu-thokoza. Sisho yona inyanga gazi and we have spotted him publicly in full gear of his new ‘profession’. One of the Shwashwaza Crew members who is as dark as two nights

combined suggested that some players were already approaching the former defender to consult but we dismissed that claim. We will not judge the retired star because we do not know how these things work. Some claim it is a calling. We wish you all the best Nkhosi in your new adventure.
