Mbappe picks Real Madrid

-

PARIS – Kylian Mbappe has reportedly decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and join Real Madrid.

According to French publication Le Parisien, the 25-year-old has decided to join Madrid for the 2024-25 campaign. The French international is out of contract at the Paris outfit this summer and after repeatedly being linked with the Spanish giants, it appears Mbappe wants to move to the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the report adds that it is not yet a done deal.

The report adds that negotiations between the interested parties are being carried out to establish the biggest contract in the Madrid dressing room for Mbappe. The World Cup winner reportedly ruled out a move to Liverpool

next season but if he did move to Madrid, it would be a monumental coup for the Spanish outfit, especially as it would be on a free transfer.

This news comes at a time when Mbappe allegedly had ‘many doubts’ about leaving the side he has called his home since leaving Monaco for PSG in 2018. Since that transfer, which cost €180 million, the Frenchman has scored 241 times in 288 appearances.

Mbappe does have an option to extend his contract at PSG by another year, a deal that would see him net £60 million for the next year. That would also prevent PSG from losing him on a free transfer.

It was reported at the end of January that Mbappe was close to revealing his future plans, with the forward last night returning a goal and an assist to help PSG defeat Strasbourg 2-1.

It was his 20th goal of the season with the French superstar having also missed a penalty already in the match.

After much back-and-forth between Mbappe and Real Madrid, speculation over a potential move to Madrid has intensified in recent weeks.

He has been free to negotiate with other clubs since January 1 after entering the final six months of his PSG contract. Liverpool have also been closely linked with a move for the forward, with Le Parisien also claiming that ‘Mbappe would be open to joining the Merseyside club.’

Following this report, transfer speculation will continue to mount around Mbappe in the coming weeks and months. On the pitch, PSG host Brest in the Last 16 of the French Cup on Wednesday, before taking on Lille in Ligue 1 next Saturday.
