- WITH MUZI RADEBE EFA’s Marketing and Communications Officer

GOOD day dear reader. Since the beginning of this year, there has been a lot of action both in the local and international football calendar.

The African continent and the globe are intensely following the action in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals that are implemented in Ivory Coast with the finals to be played tomorrow. Today and tomorrow, Ibuyile Ingwenyama Cup quarter-finals take centre stage. Just like the TotalEnergies AFCON finals, we have already witnessed some interesting results and let us see what this weekend unfolds for us.

TotalEnergies AFCON Finals

This is a top-class edition in the history of this competition just as the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr Patrice Motsepe stated during the official opening of the current edition of the TotalEnergies AFCON finals. The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) congratulates CAF for the perfect execution of the TotalEnergies 2023 AFCON finals. This edition has showcased the image of the African Football and our African culture to the globe. The planning, organisation and realisation of this prestigious competition is spot-on and without any doubt, the African continent and the globe is looking forward to a scintillating final, come tomorrow.

All the national teams that competed in this competition entertained us and of utmost interest is that the top ranked national teams on the African continent have been knocked out by the lower ranked African football nations. Anything is possible in football. Who could have thought that the hosts will be playing the finals after almost being eliminated in the group stages? Indeed, football is an unpredictable game. As the kick-off of the finals draws closer; we wish both finalists the very best of luck and may football be the ultimate champion.

SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup

Ibuyile Ingwenyama Cup even this weekend as the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accidents Fund (SMVAF) Ingwenyama Cup quarter-finals takes centre stage in as far as the domestic football calendar is concerned. Today the action is at the Mayaluka Stadium, while tomorrow’s action will be at the Mavuso Sports Centre. The key message from the sponsor (SMVAF) is to avoid the mourning by being safe on the road. As we attend these matches, let us implement this message. As we continue to celebrate the return of this prestigious competition, we must continue to give the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup the respect and status that it deserves. As the eight teams compete in the field of play, the EFA wishes them the very best of luck and may football be the ultimate winner. Every football stakeholder has a key role to play towards the success of this competition. It is of paramount importance to protect the brand of this competition, football and the sponsor. This is a unique competition that perfectly blends football and culture which portrays an excellent image of Eswatini to the entire globe. As we enjoy the razzmatazz of this weekend’s action, we must always remember that our image as a country is at stake. #Ibuyile.

Till next week, football for all and safe life for all.

#Stop gender-based violence and child abuse.
