MBABANE – Transformation does not happen overnight. It takes time and dedication to see tangible results after committing to a transformation journey. Lindelwa Maseko, who began her journey in 2019, is witnessing gradual progress and remains unfazed, believing that small steps forward serve as motivation to push even harder.

Enjoy as Maseko shares insights into her fitness journey, offering valuable advice and motivation for others facing similar challenges.

When did you start training and what was the motivation behind it?

“I started training in November 2019. I was unhappy with my physical appearance, having gained weight and feeling out of shape. My primary motivation was weight loss, which led me to join the gym.”

What was your weight then compared to now?

“I weighed around 65kg when I started working out. Currently, I weigh 62kg. Interestingly, the scale may not show a significant difference, but my body has undergone a visible transformation, with more muscle and less fat.”

What lifestyle changes contributed to your weight loss?

“Changing my relationship with food has been the main contributing factor to my weight loss. I began by reducing sugar intake, eliminating sugary drinks, candy and cake. I focused on calorie deficit and prioritising movement. Consulting with a dietician at the beginning of my journey ensured the right approach to losing weight, emphasising high nutritional value in my diet.”

What kind of exercises do you do?

“Initially, I focused on cardio, including running and aerobics classes. Over time, I incorporated strength training into my routine, lifting weights three to four times a week, alongside cardio in the form of aerobics and spinning classes.”

Do you stick to a specific nutrition programme?

“At present, I prioritise healthy balanced meals without being overly restrictive. This approach makes healthy eating sustainable.”

What challenges do you normally encounter in maintaining your new lifestyle and how do you handle them?

“When it comes to healthy eating, the challenge lies in the lack of healthy options when dining out. To stay consistent with my goals, I prepare my meals at home. However, maintaining consistency with workouts has not been a struggle as the gym has become an integral part of my identity.”

How has your life improved so far, and how do you impact other women in your circle or community?

“Regular exercise has significantly improved my mental well-being, leading to increased happiness. The discipline cultivated at the gym has extended to other areas of my life, inspiring my friends and family to make healthier choices.”

What advice can you share with those facing weight problems, but lacking the courage to start exercising and make it a lifestyle?

“Start slowly and make sustainable changes. Do not expect immediate results. Patience and consistency are key.”

What is your motivational slogan?

“If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got.” - Tony Robbins
