Green Mamba Ladies two-good for Elangeni

MBABANE – In a thrilling encounter at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground, Green Mamba clashed with Elangeni in Week 11 of the Women’s top-flight league.

The game kicked off under challengin­g wet conditions, making it difficult for the ladies to find their rhythm in the opening minutes. However, as the game progressed, both teams settled into the match and began to showcase their skills.

It was Green Mamba’s Tibonile Dlamini who broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with a clinical finish, giving her team a well-deserved lead as the first half concluded. As the first half produced attacking intent from Green Mamba with their lead, Elangeni continued their resilience to make sure the opponents never stretched their lead in the first stanza.

The second half saw the green and white side taking the initiative as they kicked off proceeding­s. Elangeni’s goalkeeper, Lomthandaz­o Gadlela, made a spectacula­r save early in the half, denying Green Mamba from extending their lead. Despite the resilient defence from Elangeni, Green Mamba continued to create more meaningful chances at goal, showcasing their attacking prowess.

Improved

Elangeni, showing intent on getting the equaliser, improved their performanc­e well into the second half, where they were combining well going into Green Mamba’s attacking third. However, their efforts were thwarted as Lokuhle Khumalo missed a few clear-cut chances, ultimately failing to convert golden opportunit­ies. Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning that the defensive prowess of Elangeni’s Nosmilo Mabaso in the right-back position was evident, as she effectivel­y broke down left-wing attacks for Green Mamba.

As the game progressed, Green Mamba’s Nonhle Simelane, despite missing countless chances since her introducti­on in the second half, finally found the back of the net in the 73rd minute. Elangeni’s goalkeeper, Lomthandaz­o Gadlela, displayed a remarkable performanc­e, making numerous great saves throughout the match and earning her the title of the man of the match.

Elangeni, to their credit, produced two crucial one-on-one saves in the 85th minute, keeping the score respectabl­e. As the game drew to a close, Green Mamba secured a well-deserved 2-0 victory, with two minutes added in the second half, highlighti­ng their dominance in the match, while Elangeni highlighte­d key areas for the Correction­al side to strengthen.
