MBABANE – It has been gathered that the police officers were called by a vendor who heard a shout for help coming from the foreign registered van, which was parked in the midst of other cars.

It is said the officers found the duo strangling one of the businessmen while demanding the money.

Upon arrival at the scene, the two alleged con artists were surrounded by a group of police officers, while the businessmen were still inside the car. Noted, was that the duo was already handcuffed. Other police officers from the Scenes of Crime Unit arrived and collected the exhibits for purposes of investigations. The money which was said to be E100 notes was stashed in a wooded box and was taken by the police. Its total amount could not be established at the time of compiling this report.

At first, the duo (emaSwati), was in a sombre mood, but they later interacted with the police officers, so much that a passerby could hardly notice that they were being questioned.

Slapping

“We saw the police officers slapping the men. The police officers told them that they had long warned them against bringing their Manzini habit to Mbabane. The old man (SA) must thank God that he is alive. Surely, the men would have been killed had it not been for the quick intervention of the police,” said one of the people who witnessed the drama.

Some of the people found at the scene commended the vendor for calling the police immediately she heard the shout for help.

Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni confirmed an incident of two men, aged 42 and 36 of Manzini, who were taken by the Mbabane police to assist them with investigations of an alleged scam, which happened near Sigwaca House.
