Up close with Loony Tech

- BY MXOLISI DLAMINI

LOONY Tech is a 23-yearold Afro-tech and Afrohouse producer who grew up at Zakhele, Two Sticks in Manzini.

He later moved to Ngwane Park, late 2018. He is an emotional yet groovy producer as his music is based on emotions.

During a meet and greet with the Gcwala team he shared about his journey on the decks, citing that it had not been easy.

“I have been in the industry for four years now and I would say, it has been a hard but great journey with all the ups and downs I’ve faced, being rejected by labels, of which kept me going, all though it was hard and sometimes I felt like it wasn’t meant for me, but I kept going and never gave up, thanks to the support of my friends and God, who gave me the strength to keep on pushing, as I am passionate about music,” he said.

He also shared that he recently released a couple of projects, where he worked with Brothers On Cue.

“Early year I started texting Brothers On Cue via Instagram to find out if they were keen on working on a collaboration.

“We worked on two singles one of which is ‘Enthics’, released under D.M recordings, which is a well-known British record label.

“I would say it was the track that opened doors for me, because ever since that release things started opening up and falling into place. It’s been really hard,” he said.

When probed about some of the DJs that inspire him, he opened up citing the likes of DJ Vitoto.

“As an Afro-tech and Afrohouse producer I draw my inspiration from the likes of Thukzin, with that threestep groovy sound with percussions.

“I also admire DJ Vitoto, Atmos Blaq, Hypaphonik, Karyendasoul with that melodic emotional harsh synthesiser and heavy drums and lately I have been inspired by Drega with his groovy club dance style.

“He is one of the talented producers. I’d say those are some of the producers that inspire me as their sounds and style match that of my sound,” the DJ said.
