Buganu Festival: Mpisi accident scene avoided

- STORIES BY SIBUSISO SHANGE

Royalty and members of the public avoided the accident scene near Mpisi Farm when attending the first leg of Bugani Ceremony held at Buhleni Royal Residence.

It is worth mentioning that a couple died after a BMW sedan they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a truck near Mpisi Farm on Valentine’s Day.

Information gathered was to the effect that there was an alternative road cutting across the farm to ensure that all motorists heading to Buhleni Royal Residence did not go via the accident scene, where the two lost their lives.

Deployed

Traffic police officers were deployed a few metres from the scene to direct those headed to the event to use the alternative road.

“My driver wanted to know why he was made to use the alternative road after he had declared that we were on our way to Buhleni Royal Residence, however, he was not given any explanation except to be told that it was an order,” said one of the motorist who used the same route.

Chairperson of the Witchdoctors Association, Makhanya Makhanya, said avoiding a fatal accident scene was provided for in the Bible. He said even though he was not sure of the verse, the Bible in the Book of Leviticus was clear that a priest must not make himself unclean by touching a dead body. He said the Bible further stated that a priest must not go near a dead body, even if it was his own mother or father. The witchdoctor said the Bible was against the high priest leaving God’s place, because he might become unclean and then make God’s place unclean.

He commended royalty for avoiding the accident scene in respect of their holiness. Makhanya said it would have been pointless for the public to cut across the accident scene and join royalty at the event. He said joining royalty after having passed by the accident scene would have made everyone at the event unclean.

“Those headed to the event avoided the fatal accident scene in respect of their holiness. A fatal accident is considered unclean, so holy people cannot compromise their holiness by using a fatal accident scene route,” he said.

Asked who was responsible for cleansing the scene, Makhanya stated that the burden lied with the bereaved families. He said by cleansing, he meant the spiritual fetching of the deceased persons’ soul at the scene.

“The scene ceases to be unclean the moment the deceased’s family fetches the soul of their loved one. The fetching of the soul is not made public but it is common cause that the soul may be fetched before burial,” he said.

Some of the shields sold by Umbutfo Khungatandla. He made E800 in the sale from the shields used by Lutsango regiment.
