Emergency
³'on¶t hesitate to reach out in case of any emergency. E[panding on the collaEoration, SM VAF &orporate &ommunications Manag er Makhosi Magongo, said the fund and the clinic were cooperative stakeholders, wherein the fund and other healthcare providers, Mkhiwa (&linic) inclusive, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), which was solely for effective and proactive interventions in the provision of health services to road traffic accident (RTA) patients. Magongo said there was nothing in the cooperative stakeholder engage ment which rendered the fund and the stakeholders providing such services as partnerships. ³,t is important to note that the fund has similar arrangements with other private hospitals, government and mission hos pitals such at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial +ospital and *ood Shepherd &atholic +ospital,´ Magongo said. According to Magongo, the partner ships with all health institutions around the country were e[pected to improve efficiency and the speed at which claims were registered, managed and settled. +e said the collaEorations with the health facilities would assist in enhanced treatment and rehaEilitation outcomes and would assist in e[pediently settling claims. Magongo clarified that SMVAF did not cover all medical costs associated with motor vehicle accidents. ³The fund is guided Ey the limits which are prescriEed in the enaEling Act, to en aEle the payment of medical costs. There are no standard prescriEed costs for each patient. The allocation of costs is mainly guided Ey the needs of each claimant, as well as the availaEle funds, depending on the limits of each claim. Through the collaEoration, Magongo stated that it was e[pected that various stakeholders would assist the fund¶s claimants to receive treatment and reha Eilitation at their earliest convenience. +e highlighted that the aforementioned would yield positive results in recovery rate and reintegrating or returning them to society. ³The fund has signed MoUs with Eoth private and puElic health facilities, to ensure that the fund¶s claimants receive medical intervention at the golden hour to reach ma[imum recovery,´ Magongo said. +e went on to state that after the occurrence of an RTA, paramedics were the first to attend to RTA victims at the scene and carry out their oEligations in line with their duties, depending on the e[tent of the inMuries of the victim and transported to the nearest and appropriate health facility. +e mentioned that SMVAF was then informed of the patient, to conduct an accident reconstruction investigation and facilitate treatment and rehaEilitation in collaEoration with the healthcare facilities across the country. Magongo stated that if a health facility was not eTuipped to treat a patient¶s inMu ries, the patient was transferred or referred to the nearest hospital, which could attend to the inMuries sustained. Furthermore, he clarified that the Eku phileni &linic was a suEsidiary of the fund and was also used to refer the fund¶s claimants if there was a need for medical investigations, for instance, diagnostic radiological services, clinical services, physiotherapy and rehaEilitation services and electroencephalography services.Treatment
