MBABANE – Revealed!

One of the leading contractors, Du-Van Developers, has provisionally won the tender for the alterations of the Mavuso Trade Exhibition and Sports Centre VVIP Box.

The owners of the facility, the Eswatini Investment Promotion Authority (EIPA), had invited suitably qualified building contractors registered with the Construction Industry Council (CIC) for alterations of the VVIP box early last month.

This publication, after learning about the proposed rehabilitation of the centre, which hosts most of the MTN Premier League matches in the absence of the under-renovation Somhlolo National Stadium, contacted Senior Marketing Manager at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre Mangaliso Mkhatshwa, who revealed that they were not renovating the whole facility, but a portion that needed attention.

He said the current VVIP area had served its purpose and completed its shelf life and it was time they upgraded and modernised it to add more features that were not available in the current set-up. Mkhatshwa also said the new area would have mostly standard modern features available in a stadium hospitality suit.

“In terms of Section 45 of the Public Procurement Act No. 7 of 2011 (the Act), following a competitive bidding process, a notice is hereby given that a contract award decision has been reached by the approvals authority,” reads an intention to award notice in part.

Du-Van Developers made the cut ahead of fellow giants in the construction industry with proposed a contract price of over E5.7 million (E5 706 010.69) and scored 87.06 per cent,” reads an extract from the notice.

Notice

The notice also highlighted that in terms of Section 45(2) of the Act, the contract award decision did not constitute a contract. “Further, in terms of Sections 45 (4), 46 and 47 of the Act, all tenderers who submitted bids were hereby notified that 10 working days is hereby allowed for submission of any application for review from the above stated date of the first publication of this notice,” further read the notice.

Meanwhile, no comment could be reached from EIPA at the time this report was compiled. This publication wanted to establish when the works were anticipated to commence. The publication further wanted to ascertain whether the facility would be closed during the rehabilitation period.
