‘No peace until Phase II implemented - Association
MBABANE – The Police Association has vowed that there will be no peace until Phase II of the salary increments is implemented.
This was noted by Dumisile Khumalo who is the chairperson of the association. She said the government by not implementing this, would drive them to act in a matter that would shock even ‘a fool’.
The association’s chairperson wondered what the government wanted them to do before their salaries could be increased.
Khumalo said for now, it would appear that the police officers were quiet about the salary increment but that this was not the case. She said the reason they were not talking about it was because they were making observations. Stressing, Khumalo said they were also hoping on the Prime Minister (PM), Russell Dlamini, to resolve this issue. She said they hoped that when the PM visits police stations as part of a ‘vusela exercise’, they would mention some of the issues. She said the salary increment in Phase II was not the only concern the police officers had, but that they had many other others issues.
“We are not a scared generation,” warned Khumalo.
She said it was concerning that no action was being taken regarding the Phase II of the salary increments, but that the police officers were taking note of this. Khumalo further mentioned that the other concern the association had, was that every time they tried to resolve the issue, it was politicised by superiors. “We are not rebels,” she said adding that they were often misrepresented to give the impression that they were a political organisation or influenced by one.
Khumalo further stressed that they had other issues that they would report at a later a stage to the PM, but did not divulge on them.
