Bucs ’keeper hijacked again

-

JOHANNESBURG – Orlando Pirates have confirmed the hijacking incident of goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi but allayed fears of the player’s life being in danger.

According to the Intelligence Bureau of South Africa, Buthelezi was hijacked while driving in Thokoza, Ekhuruleni, Gauteng on Thursday evening.

The Intelligence Bureau said the Buccaneers custodian was taken hostage by the hijackers.

Pirates have, however, moved in to confirm the goalkeeper is safe and unharmed.

“Yes, it is true. Our goalkeeper

Melusi Buthelezi was involved in a high jacking last night,” Pirates Media and Communications confirmed to Soccer Laduma.

“The player is safe and unscathed. We are happy that he is safe and unharmed, and further like to make an appeal that Melusi be given space to recover from this traumatic ordeal.”

Stabbed

It is not the first time for Buthelezi to be hijacked and this follows a February 2022 incident in which he was stabbed in the process of his vehicle being taken away. Back then, he was still with TS Galaxy and the incident happened in Soweto.

Another Pirates star Vincent Pule was also hijacked in July 2022 and taken hostage for the whole night before being released.
